Carolina is a mother of eight who has been part of Haciendo Camino’s programs at different stages of her family’s journey. Today, we are supporting her and her two-month-old son, Isaac, through our Nutrition Program.
Isaac experienced complications at birth that affected mobility in his left arm. Since joining the program in March, our team has been providing comprehensive support to both mother and child, combining nutritional monitoring, early stimulation, and social assistance. We are also helping Carolina navigate the different medical appointments, administrative procedures, and therapies Isaac needs as part of his rehabilitation.
But our relationship with Carolina began before Isaac joined the program.
Until December, she participated with another of her children, Juan Cruz, who is now three years old. Juan Cruz has a serious heart condition and is currently on the waiting list at Garrahan Children’s Hospital in Buenos Aires for a heart transplant. Despite his complex health condition, by the time he completed our Nutrition Program, he had achieved an adequate weight for his age, although his height remained below the expected range.
His condition requires multiple medications and regular medical checkups in both Santiago del Estero and Buenos Aires. For a family with very limited financial resources, these needs represent a significant challenge. Our social team has therefore worked alongside Carolina to identify financial assistance for medication and transportation costs, while also supporting the family with their housing situation.
Carolina carries most of the responsibility for raising her eight children, three of whom currently require additional developmental or medical support. The family also faces housing insecurity, as the home where they currently live may be sold.
In the midst of these challenges, Carolina continues to seek every opportunity to protect her children’s health and development. Our role is to make sure she does not have to navigate these challenges alone.
Through your support, Haciendo Camino can accompany families like Carolina’s beyond a single nutritional intervention—connecting nutrition, early childhood development, healthcare access, and social support according to each family’s needs.
Thank you for helping us stand beside families when they need it most.
