Tomi's Journey to Health

By Angel Melo | International Cooperation Officer

Dear donors,

Today we want to share Tomi’s story, a beautiful example of how early care, family commitment, and sustained support can transform a child’s development.

Tomi joined our Nutrition Program when he was only three months old, adjusted for prematurity, as he had been born at 36 weeks. At the time, he was diagnosed with growth and nutritional challenges that required close monitoring and specialized support.

During the first stage of his treatment, Tomi was brought to the center by his aunt, as his mother was hospitalized for an extended period. Even then, he began showing very positive progress. Later, when his mother was able to accompany him, she became deeply involved in the process.

Tomi’s path was not always linear. Like many children in vulnerable contexts, he faced illnesses along the way that slowed down his recovery at times. However, thanks to continuous follow-up, nutritional guidance, and his mother’s strong commitment, Tomi achieved full nutritional recovery by the time he was one year and three months old.

His mother played a key role throughout the process. She followed the team’s recommendations, attended almost every appointment, and remained fully committed to Tomi’s wellbeing.

Today, Tomi is two years and eight months old. He is healthy, happy, and growing strong.

Stories like Tomi’s remind us that recovery is possible when children and families receive the right support at the right time. Thank you for helping us make this possible.

With gratitude,
The Haciendo Camino Team
