We have seen a sharp increase in people living in the street as a consequence of the economic crisis and the aftermath of the pandemic. We need your help so we can continue providing life saving solutions to the people living on the street in towns throughout Chile. We aim to make every corner of Chile a decent place for EVERYONE.
People living on the streets are a priority group for the Hogar de Cristo, as they represent one of the crudest manifestations of social exclusion. This exclusion is the consequence of a disaffiliation process that leaves themin a state of abandonment and isolation, which translates into a violation of all their fundamental rights. The longer the time spent on the streets, the greater the deterioration of people, affecting their abilities, self-esteem, family relationships and expectations.
We believe that the solution to homeless can best be found through the support, commitment, unity and non-judgment of society. We serve them through diverse approaches both in our facilities and also on the street. Our programs range from psychosocial support, basic day care services, health and accommodation. This wide scope of actions have proven to provoke positive changes as it adapts to different people and situations.
Last year, we welcomed more than 9,490 people who lived on the street. This year we expect to assist more and to increase our reach, to promote personal change, peer relationship and re-link homeless with their social environment.
