Mitu is a remote small city in Southeastern Colombia, in the Amazon Basin. Due to the fact, there are no roads connecting the town to the rest of the country, Mitu is considered the most isolated capital in Colombia.
Last year we carried out in Mitu a special training process on strategies of the Escuela Nueva Activa (ENA) model, aimed at nearly 30 rural teachers. ENA is a pedagogical model that transforms the conventional school and way of learning and puts into practice valid principles of modern educational theory through concrete, simple strategies that promote active, participatory, cooperative, and personalized learning centered on the learner.
With the funds received for this project in December 2022 and January 2023, we are able to provide additional learning resources to three rural schools in Mitu, benefiting 57 under-resourced indigenous children.
This May 2023, we are delivering some didactic resources (a globe of the world, a chess game, two sets of logical blocks -each containing 48 pieces-, a stopwatch, and a set of colorful building blocks for kids), that will encourage the development of students' creativity and higher thinking skills and foster the active and cooperative learning processes promoted by the ENA model.
