Part 1: GENERAL INFORMATION

Executive summary

Our project is focus to train 90 youth from northern Uganda that suffered under a civil war for 20 years and now under a recovery program who cannot continue with their formal school educational program from Gulu district to gain hands-on vocational skills.  They are therefore prone to all forms of abuse, neglect and have resorted to idleness, prostitution, aguu (notorious street gangs) or bad character as they are faced with profound economic challenges.  Targeted project beneficiaries seek admission to enroll and participate.  A deliberate attempt will continue to be made by the project staff and vocational school management in consultation with school heads and community leaders to advertise, organize community visits and enroll participants.

Our objective is to train 90 youth in vocational skills education, life skills survival and entrepreneurship and provide them with social services and formal education.  Sixty percent female youth, from the most remote areas will benefit from the project.  The project targets youth aged between 16 and 25 .

Project activities concentrated on provision of vocational skills training in livelihoods like through agriculture, job creation and entrepreneurship. After the capacitation of project, 26 youth enrolled, received training on different skill set with the support since April to Sept 2019 period and has continued in the training to date.

The limited funds received for payment of school fees heavily affected the tools and equipment, partial scholarship and tutor’s allowances negatively as most trainees are frequently chased away or abscond from the vocational school due to non-payment of requisite fees. Some few youth who had been brought back to school by their parents managed to pay for their fees partially while 12 have abandoned training.
