ASILARO Irrigation Canal Rehabilitation Progress

By Michaelle M. | Project Assistant

The Lamondry and Robert Irrigation Association (Asosyasyon Irigan Lamondry / Irigan Robert Òganizasyon – ASILIRO) submitted an irrigation project proposal to Lambi Fund of Haiti requesting support for the construction of 200 linear meters of irrigation canal. However, given Lambi’s financial constraints, consultations with ASILARO members resulted in an agreement to prioritize the rehabilitation of the 30 linear meters of canal in the poorest condition within the irrigation system. Construction activities were carried out between March and June 2026.

The organization was tasked with constructing 30 linear meters of irrigation canal using the financial support provided by Lambi. However, through collective efforts and additional financial contributions from its members, the Association successfully constructed a total of 46 linear meters of canal in the localities of Robert and Lamondry.

This achievement exceeded the initial target by 16 linear meters, representing approximately 53% more construction than originally planned. The additional work demonstrates the commitment, solidarity, and resourcefulness of the Association’s members in improving the local irrigation infrastructure.

By mobilizing their own resources to extend the canal rehabilitation work beyond the agreed scope, the members contributed to addressing additional infrastructure needs within the irrigation system.

Despite these achievements, the implementation process faced several challenges that extended the project timeline. Members reported that logistical constraints and the transportation of construction materials to the work sites were particularly difficult.

However, ASILARO successfully constructed 46 linear meters of irrigation canal, exceeding its initial target of 30 meters. This achievement reflects the commitment and collective efforts of its members. Continued donor support would enable the Association to rehabilitate additional sections of the irrigation system, improve water access for farmers, strengthen agricultural production, and enhance the sustainability of local livelihoods.
