The Vidya Jyoti Library at the Kuppam campus, "The Bookworm's Paradise," is a one-of-a-kind space dedicated to fostering a love for reading and creativity among children. As part of its ongoing efforts, the library successfully hosted a month-long summer camp from April 25 to May 25, 2025. This initiative went beyond traditional reading sessions, engaging participants in a range of activities designed to make learning both fun and impactful. The camp's success is a testament to the library's commitment to community engagement and innovative educational practices.
The core objective of the summer camp was to not only improve literacy skills but also to spark curiosity and creativity in children. One of the most unique aspects of the library is that it not only provides a vast collection of over 17,000 physical and 2,000 digitized books but also empowers children to create their own. This hands-on, project-based learning model was central to the summer camp's curriculum. Participants were encouraged to move beyond passively consuming stories and instead become active creators.
Key activities during the camp included "Rebuilding a Story with Selected Images," an engaging session led by Mrs. Yallamma that encouraged participants to use their imagination and critical thinking skills to construct new narratives. Another notable session was "Apni Pathasala," which provided a more structured learning environment. These activities fostered storytelling skills and built confidence in expressing ideas. The camp also saw a significant number of visitors, with 742 students, 25 teachers, and 26 staff members utilizing the library’s resources, in addition to 9 new visitors. The total number of unique student visitors for this quarter was an impressive 1,240, highlighting the growing reach and impact of the library's programs.
The library's operations continued smoothly during the quarter (April to June 2025), with a strong focus on Book Acquisition and Library Activities. A notable 28 books were received from individual donors, showcasing the community's support for the library’s mission. While the quarterly report indicated that no new books were catalogued during this specific period, the consistent engagement in other key areas like community outreach and regular visits shows the library’s commitment to its mission. The Community Library Project also continued to be a vital component of the library's outreach, extending its services to remote communities. During the quarter from April to June 2025, the library had a total of 3,269 student exposures. This number represents the total footfall of students who visited and utilized the library's resources and programs throughout the period.
In summary, the Vidya Jyoti Library's summer camp was a resounding success. It provided a dynamic learning environment that went beyond the traditional library model. By focusing on hands-on activities, community engagement, and a wide array of resources, the library continues to build a community of enthusiastic readers and creators. The positive engagement from students, teachers, and staff during this period underscores its vital role as a hub for learning and creativity in the Kuppam campus and surrounding areas.
