From a Bedroom to a Beacon of Hope
In our last report, we celebrated laying the first bricks. Today, we're thrilled to share that the first two classrooms are nearing completion! Thanks to the generous support of our wonderful donors, we've made tremendous progress on our inclusive school and are buzzing with excitement at the thought of finally moving to our beautiful new facility.
The hardest part of running a special needs school is turning away children who desperately need our help—yet we face this heartbreaking reality daily because our current premises are literally bursting at the seams. It's a testament to our amazing team that we successfully educate 68 children, half of whom have profound special needs, in what was once a small clinic. Teacher Joyce works miracles every day, teaching 12 children—including one blind child, one deaf child, and three children with cerebral palsy—in what used to be a bedroom! Every corner of our school becomes a classroom and, whilst our children love learning outside, the fast approaching rainy season brings a whole new set of challenges.
This term, we faced an agonizing decision—turn away 10 desperate children or find room where none existed. We chose love over logic, cramming them into our already overflowing spaces because we couldn't bear to look into their parent’s eyes and say no. We squeezed them in wherever we could find a corner, knowing that without us, they would sit at home in the mud, forgotten by a world that isn't ready for them. While local Ugandan schools are gradually moving toward inclusion with our support, they still cannot serve children with complex needs or absorb the overwhelming numbers on our ever-growing waiting list.
Our dream is to open the doors of our new school this January, but we urgently need your help to make this dream a reality.
Every day we delay means another child with disabilities remains without the education they deserve. With your support, we can:
Please join the many generous hearts who have supported our journey so far. Together, we can transform the future of disability education in Uganda—but we can't do it without you.
Every contribution, no matter the size, brings us one step closer to opening our doors in January. These children are counting on us—and we're counting on you.
