The apiary is in activty in the school garden and most of the hives are inhabited. The hives have been built by local carpenters according to the given model (Kenyan Top Bar). The correct size of hives will be evaluated and, in case, corrected.
Honeybees are collecting honey and the harvest quantity will be evaluated during the next mission that will be held in March 2014.
During the mission further training will be organized for the school parents and relatives and the harvested honey will be sold in the local market as well as the collected wax. The revenue (around 3 $/kg) will be utilized to pay the school fees for the poorest children (around 40).
The situation of the apiary will be improved increasing the number of hives (Kenyan Top Bar) and the quality of the final product. Wax will be also used to prepare candles as well as body creams or lip balm.
