Khel aims to provide a chance of respite to this generation of younglings with the provision of a space that is tailored to encourage children to be children. The community of Machar Colony is stateless i.e. lack of identity/nationality and with no interest from the state there is a lack of opportunities for growth and learning. Children are bound to stay within the community and are unable to take part in activities outside as most institutes require identification documents of parents.
Khels sports & gymnastics program helps children learn sportsmanship and other life skills. Since the establishment of Khel and commencing of gymnastics classes, Imkaan has been able to train both boys and girls to form teams that participate in games locally. The talent in the community is immense and with the support of qualified coaches, the gymnastics component of Khel provides the children of the community an opportunity towards learning a life long skill.
The enhancement of physical and mental development of children is certainly the most important contribution of sports for children. In the future, these gymnasts will take part in the Asian Games and Olympics and become teachers sharing their skill.
