KCE update

Our school now serves over 90 girls in grades 4-6
Much progress has been made at KCE:
- Final test result scores from 2010 show that KCE placed 2d in its division out of 29 schools, with four of the girls placing in the Top 10, including the Number 1 spot! Our teachers are doing a great job, which is why we are creating a new project to raise money to pay for their salaries.
- Construction progress on Phase 1 of the dormitory has had some hiccups due to heavy rains and muddy, unpaved roads, but we are back on track now, with an expected completion date 2 months from now. Electric wiring has been installed! In the meantime, all the girls are happy sleeping in makeshift dorm rooms in extra classroom space.
- Our sixth graders are taking their first field trip, to the shores of nearby Lake Victoria.
- Our fifth graders have traveled to the local game reserve at Maasai Mara.
- We are lucky to have Charlotte Bourdillon, Peace Fellow from The Advocacy Project, to help out at the school for 6 months.
- In April, look for the launch of a series of interviews from our students, starting with Nasieku.

We are happy to report that funding for Phase I of the dormitory at the Kakenya Center for Excellence is now complete! Although the rainy season has set our timetable behind, all the girls are housed elsewhere on campus and we all look forward to dormitory completion!

These photos show candidates from ~70 girls who applied earlier this month to join the incoming 4th-grade class of ~30 to KCE. Hoping to learn about accepted students soon. Contrast the girls in these photos with the photo of the beaming KCE girls here, which speaks volumes about the girls in the school: http://www.globalgiving.org/projects/www-kakenyasdream-org/
We thank all our supporters for their generosity this year and look forward to a great '11 for all!
