This project shall continue to provide WASH materials mainly cubes of soap and adapted hand-wash buckets to 200 orphans from 10 orphanages in the North West and South West regions of Cameroon for their regular hand washing and sanitization needs in order to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 among them.
As one of the African countries most hit by the COVID-19, hand sanitization and staying home are some of the government regulations and prescriptions to curb the spread of the disease in Cameroon. However the absence of clean running water and hand sanitization materials like soap and hand sanitizers leave children in orphanages expose to the risk of COVID-19. The situation is compounded when these kids are forced to trek for miles everyday to fetch water from far away streams.
This project will solve the problem from two angles. Firstly it will provide 10 orphanages with 80 litres buckets each with adapted tap outlets to store water. This will greatly reduce the number of times the kids go out to fetch water thereby keeping them safer at home. Secondly, we will provide bars of hand washing soap to each orphanage to use together with the adapted buckets in sanitizing regularly and prevent any likely spread of the COVID-19 amongst the orphans who live in crowded homes.
The project will reach out to a minimum of 200 orphans from 10 orphanages in the North West and South West Regions. The orphanages will have access to clean running water and reduce the risk of contracting COVID-19 out of their homes and the kids will adopt more healthy WASH habits. Even after the project, the kids will have adopted long term hand sanitization and healthy habits that will be helpful in schools or other public places.
