Before the arrival of the certified reusable pads from Niger state, the students have vacated for the Christmas break. Hence we utilized the women's village gathering to pass the message.
The women of Eziude community are rural dwellers whose major occupation is farming. WHAIAfrica was at the annual women get-together organised to celebrate the Yuletide.
Both the mothers and their daughters were educated on Menstrual Health hygiene and the use of re-useable pads. How to use the pads were demonstrated to them.
One of the students confided in us that she is currently menstruating with a piece of cloth as she could not afford to buy a sanitary pad. This is an evidence that our advocacy is timely.
Participants were educated on the harm inherent in using rags or pieces of cloth during menstrual period.
That with the Pad-up Reusable pads, they have no reason to miss classes during menstruation.
The NAFDAC-registeted Reusable pads were distributed to all the students (60) present at the gathering.
They expressed their joy that now they have permanent access to sanitary pads, it will keep them in school and won't fall prey to early marriage as a way of survival.
They were also informed on the economic benefit of merchandising the re-useable pads in their locality.
1.Young girls can now participate in academic activities during their menstrual period with the use of the re-useable Pad as it's cost effective and durable.
2. Economic empowerment for participants who are interested in distributing the pads.
3. Young girls in the community can now relax and focus on their academics during their menstrual period.
4. We expect decrease in the rate of the infection rate among the girls due to unhygienic use of rags during menstruation.
