Girls Lead Club formed after the COVID-19 lockdown returned vulnerable girls to school and prevents those at the verge of dropping out. Lack of access to hygienic pads, reoccurrence of infections, unhygienic menstrual practices, all keep them away from school, miss classes. Seeking money for pads leads to sexual violence, unwanted pregnancies and underage marriage. Menstrual Hygiene Education will be provided in the LGA with distribution of certified Pad-Up Reusable Menstrual Kits to 1500 girls.
64% school dropout rate among Ayamelum girls exists, from missing classes during periods to finally dropping out. After Corporates & NGOs donated disposable pads, most families with two girls+ can't afford continue buying pads for subsequent months. Hence, girls improvise by using dry leaves, rags, tissue papers etc. exposing them to different infections like vaginal, urinary and reproductive tract infections. Lured by sugar daddies to get money for pads, hence, keep falling victims of GBV.
WHAIafrica health educates 3000 women on Menstrual Hygiene, while providing 1,500 free Pad-Up Reusable pads to girls in school. Two Ambassadors are trained to carry on the Hygiene awareness and sale of subsidized Reusable pads to more girls. Pad-Up offers sustainable solutions, allowing the girls access to sanitary pads irrespective of their economic class. It's designed with antimicrobial tech that reduces fungi and bacteria concentration, thus help reduce the risk of infections the girls face
The project will directly impact 3000 women and girls and indirectly over 5000; keep 1,500 girls in school during their menstrual periods and more other 2000 school girls would stop missing schools during menstruation with the Reusable Pads from the Pad-Up Ambassadors ; reduced by 30% the vaginal, urinary or reproductive tract infections; experience general wellbeing.
