85% of inmates in Nigeria Prisons are awaiting trial (AT) 25 % are held for minor offences 60 % are held for capital offences. As a result of our activities to address the issue we undertaken a research with action implementation to address each cases.
As a result of our intervention the following people were discharged an Acquitted in the High Courts:
(1) On 17 Nov,2012 Akwa Ante’s case was struck out of High court 5 Ring road on alleged case of attempted rape after 3years without complainant.
(2) On 5 /12/2012 3 Hausa men Salisu Ibrahim and 2ors’s case were also struck out without complainants after 5years 3 monthsin detention
(3) On 15/2/2013 Mudashiru Sadiq & 1 ors were discharged an acquitted in the High Court after 3 years in detention
(4) On 18/2/2013 Taofik Olaiya was discharged an acquitted in the High Court after 7 years in detention.
(5) On 20/2/2013 Sikiru Olayiwola was discharged an acquitted in the High Court after 4yrs and 3 months in detention. Please find the attached tribune publication of 6/3/13. Just to mention but few.
What is our intervention in these cases? To some of them we gave them lawyer who rendered free legal services to them without collecting money from them. We were only responsible for some of the lawyers transport money to courts. To some, we help them raise transport money to their various destinations.
