Dear Donors and Friends,
As this year comes to a close, we want to thank you so much for your generosity and commitment to supporting our Livelihood and Skill project.
This project provides underprivileged youth in the informal settlements we serve with market-relevant skills, and assists them to enter into the employment market.
I am thrilled to report that, this year alone, we have trained 18 youth in the areas of welding, masonry, and plumbing and connected all 18 to jobs in the construction industry. Each one of them also received life skills training. Please read on below for a bit more detail about the work we do.
But first let me say that we from the Shauri Yako Youth Community Youth Support Centre cannot thank you enough for your donations. Together with our industry partners, it is because of you that 18 young people are now gainfully employed.
"With newly acquired skills, I am confident that I will be able to provide for myself and even a
family. I bless all those who support this program" - Daniel, 2022 trainee -
Construction skills continue to be in high demand in Kenya. We work in partnership with Options for Homes Kenya to train and place trainees in jobs as soon as they have completed their learning. All trainees receive basic labour wages during the training period, and life skills training with the aim of supporting the positive social and mental health of young persons. This training also includes health and hygiene practices and decision-making and plays an important role in strengthening coping strategies and developing self-confidence.
On behalf of SYSC Board and beneficiaries, I wish you hall a happy holiday and a prosperous 2023. God bless you abundantly.
With gratitude,
Joe Mwai
