Dear Friends,
We hope this update finds you well!
For a young person living in an impoverished settlement area, gaining the job skills to find stable employment is no easy feat.
But, thanks to your support for our Livelihood and Job Skills project, eight new youth are about to graduate as trained masons or plumbers. And we are thrilled to share that all six of the welders in this cohort have been promised employment with the Kenyan Railway when their training concludes in June!
As we continue to bring new trainees into our job skills programming, we are maintaining our focus on welding and plumbing skills as fields continue to be in such high demand in the construction industries. We are also continuing our training partnership with Options for Homes Kenya, through which trainees gain ‘on the job’ apprenticeship experience, are paid a wage during their training, and Options for Homes helps match trainees with jobs when their training is completed.
Thanks to you, our programs work to break the cycle of poverty in a sustainable way. Self-reliant graduations are able to support their families and contribute to building their community.
A Swahili proverb:
Kutoa ni moyo si utajiri – Giving originates from the heart and not from one’s riches.
With deep thanks for your generosity,
Joe Mwai, Chair
