With your kind support, JISP continues its relief efforts in Kumamoto, focusing on extending psycho-social support to the evacuees in the temporary shelters and to the foreign community in the area. Our program brings experienced clinical psychologists to the field, combining direct contact with those affected by the earthquakes as well as with those working with disaster preparedness.

Please find a few examples of actvities from the last months;

  • A JISP psychologist trained 40 participants in knowledge and skills related to the human mind and disasters, especially tailored to those supporting foreign residents in Japan . The meeting discussed the handeling of the Kumamoto Earthquake and was held in Kumamoto International Centre.
  • Yoga therapy session for 23 kids from the Kengun Higashi and Higashimachi elementary schools was held by another JISP staff. The session began with a self-introduction; the kids did so with much confidence. They later practiced breathing, movement of the body and even offered massage to each other. Before the disaster, the kids from these two schools did not have many opportunities to meet eachother; now both schools use the same sport facility.

Once again, thank you for supporting our programs!
