Dear Friends of GrowGhana,

The beginning of this year has been exciting for us! After 8 months of training, the students of 2022/2023 batch are getting better and better. Now they are able to use the mouse and the keyboard and even coded some games and projects. Soon we will be focusing on the use of Excel and basic electronics to understand the way computers work even better.

Next to our normal lessons we were able to organize some extra activities in the past months.

For example we had a special Workshop on the International Women's day in march. We talked about gender roles and sexism. One main goal was to empower our girls in the class so they earn more confidence. In the end of the day everyone agreed: The technical industry is not only for boys! Anyone should be able to become what they want. For example, a software engineer.

It was wonderful to see how our students were able to use the communication skills we teached them, to have an open discussion with the whole class about gender and inequalities.

In April we went on our first excursion, where we visited the company “turntabl”. They are a ghanaian startup which focuses on software engineering. They told our students about their jobs. The kids were able to ask questions to find out if they would be interested in a similar career path. Next to the informational part it was a lot of fun for us and the students to be on a field trip. Our Bus was filled with music and laughter!

Looking at our training situation we are still in need to stock up our devices. Due to an increasing number of students and the ongoing use of the computers we have some parts that got broken over time. It is really frustrating when two or more students have to share their devices and the learning efficiency is lacking! If you have the possibility to support us financially we would be so grateful for your help!

We are thankful that we are able to see our students learning in a happy environment! This is only possible because we have donors like you and we really appreciate every dollar!

Thank you for your support!
