At risk of violence, exploitation, and abuse, a total of 28 extremely vulnerable migrants across 14 different countries have received protection support and assistance through the IOM Global Assistance Fund thanks to a grant received by USA for IOM (November 2023 – June 2025). Support was provided to victims of trafficking, stranded migrants, migrants with medical needs, and an unaccompanied minor. The individuals included men, women and children of 15 different nationalities.
Restoring hope for a vulnerable woman after return to Togo
After years of hardship in Lebanon, a pregnant woman made the decision to return to her home country of Togo through IOM’s Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration program. Before departure, she met medical clearance for travel; however, shortly after her arrival, she experienced severe complications and lost her baby.
Recognizing the urgency of her condition and financial and healthcare barriers, IOM covered her medical expenses in Togo to ensure she received the critical care needed. The IOM Global Assistance Fund provided reintegration support; she started a small grocery business, securing a stable source of income and regaining her independence.
