For this update, we would like to highlight how we supported one of our investee companies—Moppet Foods—to strengthen its climate resilience.
Moppet Foods is a women-led early-years food company in Nigeria that, like many food manufacturers, grapples with growing volumes of organic production waste. This waste contributes to environmental pollution, while the factory’s reliance on costly LPG increases operating expenses, drives up food prices for families, and adds to carbon emissions.
To address this challenge, we launched a targeted fundraising campaign on GlobalGiving during Giving Tuesday in December to support Moppet Foods in acquiring a biodigester—technology that converts organic waste into clean biogas and biofertilizer. The modular biogas digester will process up to 73 tonnes of factory waste annually, replacing LPG use, cutting an estimated 171 tonnes of CO emissions, and reducing energy costs by approximately 15%. In addition, it will generate 62 tonnes of biofertilizer each year, benefiting more than 50 local farmers.
Through this intervention, donor support will help create jobs, empower women entrepreneurs, and contribute to a more sustainable and climate-resilient food system.
This initiative is one of the many ways EIV supports its female founders to grow resilient, impact-driven businesses.
