Dear donor,

Thank you so much for your support to finance the rehabilitation of 7 burned children in Peru. Our team, kids and all their families are thankful with you, for your generosity and support. Without your help we couldn’t have come this far.

Today I want to tell you about one of our kids:
I met little Luciana in a christmas party for all our kids. She was really cute and shy as well, when someone wanted to say hello, she quickly hugged her mom's leg and hid her face.

Luciana’s mom told me that she started to be like that after the accident and because her scars.Just months ago, while she was running in the house accidentally fell  into a pot of hot food that was on the floor. -Here in poor areas it is common to put the pots on the floor so they can cool down the food inside-.

Mom and dad do their best to help and support our little girl, but they have a difficult situation: Unfortunately in our country agricultors are not so well paid, and they are from a little place so far away in highlands. Even this situation they never gave up and they decided to bring her to our centre. When she has appointments comes with mom and next time comes with dad. They are always concern about all the advices and therapies they have to do when they come back home.

Lucianita is receiving the treatments needed for an integral rehabilitation in ANIQUEM, which means physiotherapy, occupational therapy, psychological treatment, reinsertion into the society and special lycra garments to get better the scars in her body. Of course their skin will never look like it was before but what we want to achieve is that these kids are able to live a normal life again.

Even when scars are not in face, kids know that they are gonna living all their lifes with those in their bodies and each day when they see them it’s a reminder of a traumatic day. Our mission its to convert this scars into hope and everyday we work so hard to make this possible.

Months have passed and Lucianita is now less shy and can talk to you without hiding her beautiful face in something or someone. She is a lovely girl with a sweet voice and is gaining more confidence in herself. Now when she comes to ANIQUEM sometimes stops to visit me in the office and even ask me for paint something she especially choose. She loves sitting there and sing while paints. This moment is really gold for me so I wanted to share some photos with all of you.

I'm sure you would love her if you could meet her.

Thank you again for all your support. We’re really blessed to count on you!!!

Team ANIQUEM.

Miroslav and a volunteer at our Christmas party!
Miroslav and a volunteer at our Christmas party!

Dear friend,

Thank you so much for your support to finance the rehabilitation of 7 burned children in Peru. Our little patientes are doing their best job to receive and follow therapists indications! Here in ANIQUEM everyone is just happy to see them and bring back memories how these kids were at the beginning and how they are now. We couldn’t have come this far without you!!!

Today I would like to introduce you one of the children you are supporting. His name is Miroslav, he’s 3 years old and lives with aunties and his grandmother.

Last year, one night while his aunt was cooking he asked for bread. Unfortunately, while he enjoyed his bread, a piece fell into a pot of hot food that was on the floor. -Here in poor areas it is common to put the pots on the floor so they can cool down the food inside- Seeing his bread inside, the little boy introduces his hand into the hot pot to remove it from the inside, action that  caused severe burns on his face, right arm and hand.

At first their parents used to bring Miroslav to the center, but after a while they began to have some serious relationship issues. So his mother left him in the care of his grandmother and aunts. Despite the difficult situation facing, this little boy is doing his best with physical and occupational therapies, but still has a long way to go with the psychological ones because he must overcome many traumas by be growing up without his parents.

Miroslav is a very sweet and playful child (always jumping around there)and I am sure you would fall in love with him instantly if you would have the chance to get to know him. So to give thanks and say goodbye this little man asked me send you this photo of a turtle that he made with “so much love and all my powers” as he told me. Did I forget to mention he is a superhero?

Thank you again for all your support this year. We’re really blessed to count on you!!!

Best wishes in this new year!

Leo enjoys therapies!
Leo enjoys therapies!

Dear Donor,

Everyday our little patients come to receive their therapies and make us really happy to know that each therapy means a new step towards a new life. The shy gazes become gradually into smiles and we start to hearing the halls and our small yard full of their voices and laughs. Every challenge that they overcome in his rehabilitation means an indescribable joy to everyone here. Donating to ANIQUEM not only means giving a smile to one of our children, it also means forming part of our big family.

With every donation we can finance the treatment for one of our kids that have suffered from severe burns. Their integral rehabilitation includes physiotherapy, occupational therapy, compressive garments, psychological treatments and the reintegration into the society.

Today we want to thank you so much for your support to finance the rehabilitation of 7 burned children in Peru. One of the children you are supporting is Leonardo and he asked me to introduce himself: "Hola my name is Leonardo but I like being called Leo. I used to live in Piura (a department in northern Perú) with my parents but after my burn accident we came to live here in Lima with mom and granny in a rented house. I really like go to school but what I love most is coming here because I enjoy so much painting and playing with my friends in the garden, and I always feel happy when mommy says that today is an occupational therapy day!"

Leo is an smart and kind-hearted kid. He is always in a good mood with everybody, he really likes came to take his therapies because he understands that it will really help him. is mother cares much for his treatment. And barely came to Lima began working as a saleswoman, but her pay can only cover their basic needs. However this did not mean neglecting his treatments. She is always concerned about therapies and cares for him and follows every indication. She is really involved into the rehabilitation and our little brave kid knows it, so everybody here is happy about this.

Thank you so much for your invaluable support, helping Leo and many other children with severe burns in Peru!

Dear Donor,

Donating to ANIQUEM not only means giving a smile to one of our children, it also means forming part of our big family. With every donation we can finance the treatment for one of our kids that have suffered from severe burns. Their integral rehabilitation includes physiotherapy, occupational therapy, compressive garments, psychological treatments and the reintegration into the society.

One of the 7 children we were able to help thanks to your donation to our project "Rehabilitation for 7 Burned Children in Peru" is Juan: "Hola, my name is Juan and I was born in Iquitos, a small village in the jungle of Peru. When I was 6 years old, while I was sleeping, my bed caught fire. My dad rescued me directly and took me to the hospital. I had to stay in the hospital for almost 2 month. All that happened 4 years ago, now I am 10 years old and I am feeling much better thanks to ANIQUEM. Here, I am receiving my therapies and because of that my scars look much better. I really like to go to ANIQUEM, although it takes us almost 2 hours to arrive because right now I life on a mountain outside the city without electricity or running water. I enjoy playing football in the garden in ANIQUEM, especially with my younger brother and I always participate in the activities and partys they are organizing. Thank you so much for your help!"

Juan is a brave and happy kid. He is always coming for his therapies on time although he lives quite far away from our rehabilitation center. His mum is really concerned about him and continues with his therapies at home, massaging his skin, applying the creams and making sure he is wearing the compressive garments if necessary. This is very important for the integral rehabilitation and because of that we always explain to the families how to do the therapies at home. Their living situation is difficult as they don´t have electricity or running water.

Another child we would love to benefit with the project is Jose: Read more about him in the link below, donate on Wednesday, 12 July and GlobalGiving is donating 50% more!!! Don´t miss this opportunity: This way we will be able to improve the life quality of Jose substantially and give him a new future!

Thank you so much for helping Juan, Jose and many other children with severe burns in Peru!

If you have any questions concerning our work or if you would like to visit our rehabilitation center to see our work yourself, just let us know!

We send you our best wishes and hope you have a great day!

Cesia in our garden
Cesia in our garden

Dear Donors,

Thank you so much for your support to finance the rehabilitation of 7 burned children in Peru. One of the children you are supporting is Cesia, who is going to tell her story herself (we translated it in English for you though):

Hola, my name Cesia and I am 8 years old. Over 2 years ago my three sisters and I were sleeping at home and suddenly there was a big fire. My mom told me that a candle fell down which started the fire. She just had gone outside to clean our clothes and when she came back it was already too late: everything was on fire. A lot of the parts of my body were burned and it hurt really really much. But that was a long time ago; know I am feeling a lot better. After the fire everything changed. We had to move to my uncle's place in Lima to go to ANIQUEM. I really enjoy being here, we can play in the garden and after every time my skin feels better. But I would like to go back to my home Chiclayo, so when I am old enough I can study medicine there and help many people.

Cesia and her three sisters are receiving the treatments needed for an integral rehabilitation in ANIQUEM, which means physiotherapy, occupational therapy, psychological treatment and the reinsertion into the society. The treatment takes on average 3 years but as Cesia and her sisters are severely burned, it can take several years longer. Especially the psychological treatment is very important, as we are able to cure the external scars but curing the internal scars is a lot more difficult. Cesia and her sisters are a great example of our work: They are not ashamed of showing their scars in public and they are doing the necessary treatments at home so that their scars already look much better. Of course their skin will never look like it was before but what we want to achieve is that these kids are able to live a normal life again.

Cesia is a really special person and I am sure you would like her if you would have the chance to get to know her. Besides her treatments in ANIQUEM, she needs a new prothesis to be able to walk again. Just enter the link at the end of the email to get to know more about this special case.

Thank you again so much for your support - thanks to you children like Cesia can receive their treatments here in ANIQUEM!
