Busogo lies 12 km west of Musanze in a high, rainy region (1,500-2,350 m altitude, 1,200-1,400 mm rainfall). Covering 450 km, it has 98,331 people (322/km), making it densely populated and poor. Most residents depend on subsistence farming and livestock, with 45% illiteracy. Poor roads hinder trade and services, limiting income and development. Economic diversification remains minimal.
. The population is mostly rural and very poor. 45% of the population is illiterate. Subsistence agriculture and livestock are the only sources of income. The surface reserved for family crops is 3,200 ha for pastures 6,636 ha, out of a total available agricultural surface of 10,024 ha. The population lives in an auto-subsistence economy, so that the monetary income is very low.
4. Objectives of the Project: a) Project objectives This project has the following objectives: - To provide the rain water for hygienic purposes use at the G.S BUSOGO I secondary school and to neighbor populations; - Reduction of risks to catch diseases due to surface water runoff; - Alleviation of challenges encumbered by students while fetching for water in the valley; - Improving the hygienic, studying and health conditions of students of G.S Busogo I School;
In the context of Installation of water tanks in G. S Busogo I: the primary beneficiaries of water access in schools are the students, teachers, and staff who utilize the school facilities, as well as the wider community that benefits from improved hygiene and health conditions
