We believe in the power of role models. Our organisation seeks to raise the aspirations of young girls around the world by connecting them with amazing women. By introducing girls aged 10-15 to a variety of careers and options, we can combat the gender stereotypes which still play a major role in their future education and career choices. We work with thousands of volunteers across the world to help empower young girls to follow their dreams.
Sadly, gendered stereotypes and perceptions affect girls all over the world, and this has a significant impact on their education and career choices from an early age. Research shows that after the age of 12, girls' confidence in their own abilities drops by 30%, 55% of girls between the age of 7 and 21 say that gender stereotypes affect their ability to say what they think, and girls as young as 6 yrs old consider themselves less bright than boys.
Role models play a critical role in breaking down gender stereotypes. Inspiring Girls International seeks to raise the aspirations of girls by connecting them with women from different backgrounds, sectors and life experiences. We do this by working in three ways: in-school programmes, online sessions and our Video Hub. All our resources are free and give the opportunity for women to share their journeys to show the diversity of opportunities for girls.
Last year we met more than 26 thousand girls and we're now working with our volunteers in 19 countries across 4 continents! According to research conducted by University CEU San Pablo in partnership with Inspiring Girls Spain, Inspiring Girls role model sessions actively reduce the impact of gender-based stereotypes and boost the confidence of the girls involved. With your help we could reach even more girls around the world!
