Saturday July 20 was a big day for ADEDAR and women's rugby in Mozambique! We decided we needed to create an environment, a rugby event JUST for girls. Every few months, ADEDAR puts on rugby clinics which are like practices. A coach is responsible for a training station and then the groups go from station to station learning more about rugby. It's a great way to meet other ruggers and to learn more about the sport and what it is we do.
This time, we had a visitor from the US, Emily, who is another AMAZING rugby player, and we decided it was time for our girls in Mozambique have a clinic just for them. We went on TV, we passed out flyers, we invited girls from all the teams around Maputo. We planned the best stations we could make and got it all set up.
The day of went awesome! The coaches were on it: well organized, responsible, created a fun and learning environment. There was dancing at the warm-up, fun icebreaker games to get the moral going, a DJ to try to attract more players! We had at least 80 girls participate in the rugby clinic! It was an extremely successful day and all the girls said they want more!
And according to our theme for this day and the rest of our days for rugby in Mozambique: "WANSATI E O FUTURO!" (WOMEN ARE THE FUTURE!)
