It's amazing to see the growth and change in these girls and in the growth of rugby here. Saturday we just had a game, one against Swaziland, and we (us women and girls in Mozambique) got to represent Mozambique. We beat them 69-0.
Three years ago when we started rugby, we could barely get girls on the field. We had to make them play with the boys, and many, unfortunately, would get intimidated. Now I look at the girls and how far we have gone. Our fans were 100% impressed, even telling me during the game that we work together better than the guys! We are proving everyday in rugby that we can and we will.
Fighting to get seen, to get noticed, to show who we are will is a struggle around the world. Women have a constant struggle to not be pushed aside from the men. I'm so proud of these girls learning to engage in that confrontation and help better themselves and empower the other women around them. We definitely need more support to keep this going, to give more to these girls so that they can give more to the world around them.
