Greetings Friends of 4GIRLS Organization,
Excitement is building, as we prepare for our 13th Annual Empowerment Workshop, scheduled for May 20thand 21stat Nelson Academy. We are back in full force with an in-person, two-day event for up to 120 middle school girls. Applications for Participants, Junior Mentors, and Adult Mentors are linked on our website, www.4girls.org.
We, at 4GIRLS Organization, believe words are powerful, and this year’s word for our workshop theme is STRONG. It is a simple word, and one that’s been around a long time. It has multiple meanings, as it can mean physically strong (fit, muscular, sturdy, athletic, robust, and powerful) or mentally strong (tough, impregnable, inviolable – never to be broken, infringed, or dishonored) or spiritually strong (dominant, dynamic, energetic, and forceful). We will endeavor to bring all of these attributes to our middle school girls that attend the workshop this year. High school girls take the lead in providing inspiration to their younger counterparts, and we already have 12 of the 15 Junior Mentors signed up and ready to go!
The curriculum is being finalized, and a keynote speaker has not yet been announced, but we can count on some of the signature 4GIRLS activities at this workshop. Vision Journaling is a favorite. This is where girls design their own cover with empowering words and images, selecting from hundreds of magazine cut-outs at their table. They are guided through the process of establishing goals, projecting their future selves, and taking the first steps of their journey to achieving their dreams. We honor the changing bodies of our girls by offering professional advice and education on adolescence, puberty, and what to expect at this stage in their development. Our Junior Mentors provide some of the programming in presentations on “What to expect in High School” and we always have break-out sessions on topics such as Mental Health, Body Positivity, and Nia, a combination of exercise that connects the body, mind, emotions, and spirit.
In addition to the empowerment and inspiration the girls (and everyone involved in the workshop) receive, we offer breakfast items, lunch, snacks, and beverages, and each participant receives a 4GIRLS bag filled with useful and fun items to take away from the experience. They are also eligible to win a $500 scholarship for summer enrichment programs. And, our graduating High School Seniors who have participated in the program are eligible to win a $2000 scholarship for college. Each year, we give away four of each, totally $10,000!
Did we mention that we do all of this for free? Or that we are a 100% volunteer organization? We work all year to raise the funds to put on this annual workshop and change the lives of the middle school girls who attend. It’s what we do, and we thank all of our supporters and donors who help us do it. Thank you, GlobalGiving donors, for supporting us in this mission.
Sincerely,
The 4GIRLS Board of Directors
