July 2022

Greetings Friends of 4GIRLS Organization,

It’s Scholarship time!  Time to support our program participants by opening doors and providing access to opportunities!  This year we are proud to announce that we gave three (3) $2000 scholarships to graduating high school girls to help with their college tuition, and two (2) $500 scholarships to middle school girls to use for summer enrichment in academics, arts, or sports programs.  Let’s meet our 202 winners…

Middle School Participants

Olivia and Jemma attended the 2022 4GIRLS Workshop in April from different middle schools and were inspired to be Unstoppable.  Both girls applied for their scholarship to enroll in a swimming program this summer.  Jemma, an incoming 8th grader, finds that it is not only good for her physical health, but her mental and emotional health as well.  Olivia will be entering high school in the fall and hopes to make the swim team.  These young ladies showed their determination with 4.0 GPA’s and involvement in extracurricular activities, such as Acting, Junior Lifeguarding, Soccer, Gymnastics, and Leadership programs such as Principal’s Advisory Council and YMCA Youth Institute.

Graduating High School Participants

Caroline graduated with honors and will be attending University of Northern Colorado in the fall, where she will pursue a Fine Arts degree in a Musical Theater program with a minor in Speech Pathology. She has been a 4GIRLS Junior Mentor since 2020 and plans to carry on the message of empowerment for young girls as she takes advantage of outreach opportunities in her college community.  Odilia was a first- time Junior Mentor at the 2022 Unstoppable Workshop and inspired her group of participants to take part in all of the activities.  She will be attending Cal. State Long Beach in the fall where she hopes to pursue her dream of becoming a psychiatrist.  Raquel has practically grown up with the 4GIRLS Organization, participating as a middle schooler and then all four years in high school as a Junior Mentor.  She has been accepted at University of California, Berkeley, where she will pursue a career in a business or foreign intelligence related field.  She has a passion for creating change in the world and we are expecting great things from her and all of our award recipients.

We would like to take this opportunity to recognize one of our own trailblazers.  4GIRLS Board Member Rochelle Manns received the Ingram Micro Cloud Summit 2022 Women in Cloud Female Leader of the Year for demonstrating extraordinary levels of motivation, leadership and advocacy for women.  This is a first ever award, but not the first time Rochelle has been acknowledged for her achievements in the business and technology world.  Congratulations Rochelle, and thank you for paying it forward!

Earlier this year, 4GIRLS Junior Mentor Zoe led a workshop for the Junior League of Long Beach at their Especially Me program for 5thgrade girls.  The Junior League acknowledged 4GIRLS in May with their annual Partnership Award and we are honored to be working together to achieve our aligned mission of empowering girls in the community.  Our next empowerment event will be for 5th or 6th grade girls entering middle school in the fall.  At this Unstoppable half day workshop, incoming middle schoolers will learn vision journaling, grounding techniques, how to set goals and priorities, and social/emotional regulation.  In addition, our Junior Mentors will present segments on How to Make Friends, What to Expect in Middle School, and Time Management Tips for Success.  Registration is open and we will accept 50 participants for this event to be held on Saturday, August 6th.

We are grateful for our community of 4GIRLS supporters and extend our best wishes to you for a great summer.  We couldn’t do what we do without you, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Sincerely,

The 4GIRLS Board of Directors
