The construction of our store and co-working spaces continues. Because of the support of our partners, we are still able to buy materials and pay salaries to our construction workers. Our primary workers are from La Haciendita. This is extremely significant because these men do not have full-time jobs to care for their families. Marcos, pictured in the burgundy shirt, is a married father of three. His youngest is 2 years old and his wife doesn't work so Marcos needs this job. Everyday that he works, not only do we get closer to finishing the building that will provide him and others in La Haciendita with affordable goods and services, but it's another opportunity for him to earn money to care for his family.
The ongoing conflict between the Mexican government and drug cartels keeps some of the major highways blocked limiting the movement of goods. This creates shortages and raises prices. Most families in La Haciendita are struggling financially to feed their families. However, because of this project some of them are experiencing financial stability and are able to purchase goods and cover other expenses. We are excited for Marcos and his family and are grateful to partner with La Haciendita in this project!
