The proposed project aims at improving access to basic needs of the communities affected by Mount Ruang Eruption in Indonesia. It will target affected communities who stay in the temporary shelters through a series of interventions, such as food distribution for at-risk groups, psychosocial support, shelter management and coordination.
There are currently 14045 people from 12 villages affected by the eruption on 30 April 2024. As many as 6437 have to be evacuated to Siau Island and Manado City in the mainland. Based on the initial assessment, immediate needs are identified as follow: food supplies with specific nutritional intake for at-risk groups, psychosocial support for family members who are separated in different locations/islands, shelter management and coordination to ensure accessibility and protection measures.
YEU provides support for 750 people for two months through provision of food supplies with specific nutritional intake for at-risk groups , facilitating psychosocial support for families through communication support as space for connecting families sheltering in different locations/islands, recreational activities, and private room for families. Lastly, the project also manages temporary shelters through community-organizing, regular coordination meetings, self-help, division of spaces, etc.
The project will promote the wellbeing of 750 people affected by the eruption through the provision of daily essentials, psychosocial supports, safe and healthy shelters.
