Project Report | Mar 28, 2019
Indigenous women united for reconstruction.

By Maria del Rocio Solis | Project coordinator

After the damage suffered by the earthquake, each one individually had devoted efforts to recover the materials that could be used to rebuild our homes and we had forgotten to rebuild our lives. With the meetings and reflections we have had, we realize that we needed to talk about it and join hands together to improve not only the homes but also the family and community life.
In the meetings we have identified that every day earthquakes and hurricanes are more frequent and intense, so we must identify the risk areas and vulnerability conditions of our families. Therefore, having a risk map allows us to take measures that reduce vulnerability conditions.
We have identified the components of the natural heritage, it is very important to know it and to strengthen our capacities to improve it, now we see that we have that opportunity.
We have formed a "learning community", where with the support of the CODICE team we know some systems to treat water, such as the System for domestic wastewater treatment (black and soapy water), with installation of ecological toilets and biofilter . With this we will reduce the contamination of streams.
Another important aspect is to reduce the use of firewood for food preparation. For this we are in the process of training in the installation of the wood-burning stove, which helps both reduce consumption and spend less time collecting.
