January Project Update - Guava jam

By Shoshana Grossman-Crist | Communications and Quality Control Coordinator

Guava Jam from Santiago del Rio
Guava Jam from Santiago del Rio

The sale of holiday baskets that contained our microenterprises’ products was a huge success and the microentrepreneurs are gearing up for the production of new products in 2011.

During December, the office at IMIFAP-“I want to, I can” turned into Santa’s workshop as we teamed up to assemble and ship the holiday baskets of products made by the women of our microenterprise program. The results were astounding: we sold more than 2,300 baskets over the holiday season!

Guava jam produced by our microentreprenuers in Santiago del Rio is already on the breakfast tables of thousands of homes in Mexico City. Based on this success model, we are expanding the project to other communities, like San Miguel Tequixtepec, interested in producing other flavors of jam. Relying on our experience and success with guava jam, we expect to quickly achieve large-scale production and national commercialization of the new jam from San Miguel Tequixtepec.

We’re excited to see what other new projects will be undertaken by other microenterprises in 2011. Your continued support makes this all possible!
