August and September have been very exciting months for IMIFAP - Yo quiero, yo puedo and for our projects supporting indigenous women to market their products! As the month of August ended, IMIFAP - Yo quiero, yo puedo received some incredible news - we won the Juscelino Kubischeck Award of Merit for Regional Development in Latin America and the Caribbean 2011, which is awarded annually by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB)! There were 337 nominations and four winners in total. IMIFAP – Yo quiero, yo puedo is the only winner from Mexico and shares the award in the social, cultural, and scientific category with the Salesian Project for the Street Children of Ecuador.
Our efforts selling “Tía Lore jams” in Mexico continue to be a big success - almost 100 cases of jam (about 2500 jars of jam) were sold during August and September! Additionally, the project gained more visibility on September 2nd when Adanelli Santana, one of IMIFAP - Yo quiero, yo puedo’s microfinance and microenterprise project coordinators, visited the radio show “Lammoglia, la familia y usted” on 1470 AM-Grupo Fórmula and spoke with Dr. Lammoglia about our microenterprise project and the production of “Tía Lore” jams. Adanelli spoke about how IMIFAP - Yo quiero, yo puedo’s unique strategy is empowering women who are participating in our programs in Oaxaca, Hidalgo, Michoacán, and Puebla and helping them to become empowered agents in their own lives. She also explained IMIFAP - Yo quiero, yo puedo’s emphasis on building life skills in every one of our programs, which lessen shame, guilt, and fear, and increase empowerment.
As we continue to make progress and improvements with each passing month, we feel such gratitude for the support of our donors on GlobalGiving. Without your help, we would not be able to reach so many women.

Los meses de agosto y septiembre fueron muy emocionantes para el equipo del IMIFAP - Yo quiero, yo puedo, así como para nuestros proyectos ¡que apoyan a las mujeres indígenas a comercializar sus productos! A fines de septiembre, en el IMIFAP - Yo quiero, yo puedo recibimos noticias increíbles: ganamos el Premio Mérito al Desarrollo Regional de América Latina y el Caribe Juscelino Kubitschek 2011, que otorga el Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo (BID). El IMIFAP - Yo quiero, yo puedo fue el único ganador de México, y compartió esta edición del premio en la categoría “Social, Cultural y Científica” con la Fundación Proyecto Salesiano “Chicos de la Calle” de Ecuador.
Nuestros esfuerzos de vender las mermeladas "Tía Lore" en México siguen rindiendo buenos frutos: ¡casi 100 cajas de mermelada (alrededor de 2,500 frascos del producto) se vendieron en agosto y septiembre! Además, el proyecto ganó más notoriedad el 2 de septiembre pasado, cuando Adanelli Santana, coordinadora de los proyectos de microfinanzas y microempresas del IMIFAP - Yo quiero, yo puedo, visitó el programa de radio "Lammoglia, la familia y usted" (1470 AM, Grupo Fórmula) y habló con el Dr. Lammoglia sobre el proyecto de producción microempresarial de las mermeladas "Tía Lore". Adanelli explicó la metodología única del IMIFAP - Yo quiero, yo puedo, que desarrolla y fortalece el potencial de las mujeres que participan en nuestros programas -en Oaxaca, Hidalgo, Michoacán y Puebla- y les facilita el convertirse en agentes de cambio de sus propias vidas . También explicó nuestro énfasis en el desarrollo de habilidades para la vida en cada uno de nuestros programas, y en la reducción de barreras psicológicas (culpa, pena y miedo), a la vez que empoderan a sus participantes.
Al tiempo que avanzamos en la implementación de nuestros programas y mejorándolos cada mes que pasa, compartimos nuestra sincera gratitud por el apoyo dado por todos nuestros donantes a través de GlobalGiving. Sin su valiosa ayuda, no seríamos capaces de apoyar a tantas mujeres indígenas y rurales de México.
