This summer, IMIFAP – “I want to, I can” has had the pleasure of hosting a number of interns in our microenterprise department. For our July report, we bring you the experiences of Andrea Padilla, one of IMIFAP´s wonderful interns!
“During my internship with IMIFAP I was involved with various projects in the microenterprise department. I had the privilege of collaborating in the development of a business plan for one of IMIFAP´s sustainable economic development projects which recently won a FUNDMEX prize for Productive Entrepreneurship, and will support the families of three groups from the state of Oaxaca.
Additionally, I helped with the planning and design of a new Christmas catalog for the commercialization of various products made by our groups. I also had the opportunity to give a marketing workshop to a group of microentrepreneurs in Tlalchinol, a small community in the state of Hidalgo. The workshop participants learned the basic aspects of marketing for microenterprises, like customer service, company image and promotion, focused on topics pertinent to the specific needs of their small businesses. This was one of the most enriching experiences that I had during my internship; I was able to experience first-hand IMIFAP´s model for community microenterprises, and was able to work face to face with the people who were the main drive behind the organization.
IMIFAP’s slogan, “I want to, I can,” is well represented by each and every one of the staff who dedicate themselves to bring IMIFAP´s work to some of the most marginalized sectors of the population in Mexico. I am proud to be able to say that I formed part of IMIFAP´s team!”
