At E2E, we passionately believe that any positive change should begin with efficient data collection. When it comes to addressing social issues such as security… information must precede intervention.
That’s why we have launched ‘Peace Indicators’ (“Indicadores de Paz”); a project based in Las Comunas 1, 3 & 5 of Medellin. By working hands-on with all community stakeholders, we are beginning to identify the factors that influence peaceful coexistence and increase human security. We are committed to a step-by-step mission which seeks to fill in crucial gaps of information.
We have spent the past few months holding numerous focus groups and conducting surveys in order to create a database of categorized indicators on peacebuilding and reconciliation, which will be made available to the communities and other organizations involved in making Comuna 1, 3 & 5 safer places to live.
Recent events include our hugely successful ‘Awareness Workshop about Co-existence and Peace’ in Barrio La Torre, Comuna 1. This workshop provided a platform for community participation and allowed members of the Comuna 1 community to discuss and define what “peace”, “co-existance”, “security” and “insecurity” meant. Whilst still in its pilot phase, we believe that this project can play an immense role in increasing efficiency and project impact not only in these Comunas, but throughout the country. By consulting and collaborating with local communities, we are creating a model that can be applied to all E2E projects, including our work in Rincón del Mar (Sucre), Quibdó (Chocó) and La Macarena (Meta). We are on a mission to maximize efficiency, increase peaceful co-existence and ultimately provide a further resource to NGOs, universities and government agencies that seek to bring about positive change. One small step can have a multiplicative effect and fundamentally improve the way we carry out social interventions.
