This often means that organizations are unable to identify root causes or issues that would allow them to design and implement effective and impactful projects. Additionally, without actionable data it is often difficult for groups to track the effectiveness of their work, leading to poor project design and decision making.
In Las Comunas 1, 3 & 5 of Medellín, a lack of community-driven data collection has impeded the ability to effectively intervene where insecurity most plagues the city. Historically, these areas have been controlled by illegal armed groups, gang activity and invisible borders—a dynamic, ever-changing atmosphere which makes offering interventions for human security and peaceful coexistence. However, due to the unique situation in these neighborhoods, many factors influence peaceful coexistence. These factors are subtle, personal and unique to each neighborhood.
This study seeks to fill the information gap by working with all actors in the community to identify what are the factors that influence peaceful coexistence and increase human security. The E2E methodology includes holding focus groups and conducting surveys and interviews in Las Comuna 1, 3 & 5 in Medellín. With the analyzed information E2E will create a database of categorized indicators on peacebuilding and reconciliation, which will be made available to the communities and other organizations that work to create safer, more peaceful communities in Medellín.
Additionally, E2E will provide clear and measurable project recommendations to groups interested in conducting peace and community building projects in Medellín, increasing efficiency and project impact. These indicator categories will be initially created and measured in the designated areas for the pilot project, and then applied to all E2E projects in La Comuna 8 Medellín, Rincón del Mar, Sucre, which is part of Montes de María; and La Macarena, Meta, alongside E2E´s activities in Meta at the FARC Reincorporation camps in Playa Rica.
The information generated will:
Providing this resource to NGOs, universities and government agencies can have a multiplicative effect, encouraging intervention in at-need areas and increasing the impact of invested resources. The database will be available and updated by E2E.
