Marching ahead in life!

By Shivkumar Sharma | Sr Manager - Digital Engagement

Ayaan was born with moderate hearing loss in his left ear and severe hearing loss in his right ear with low vision loss in both his eyes due to a drop in oxygen levels at birth.

Before joining our deafblind programme, Ayaan used to go to Anand Niketan school in Mapusa, Goa. The parents understood that Ayaan was facing difficulties keeping up with his education. After coming to know about our services they enrolled Ayaan with us to fulfill his educational needs.

With the support from the educators and Ayaan began to learn communication skills. Now he is able to communicate properly and knows to sign the alphabets and numbers.

Ayaan has shown a lot of improvements and has become very active and keen to do the activities as instructed by his educator. Earlier he didn’t had any time cocept, money concept, not aware about outings etc. but today he is able to tell time and can identify money. Now he is independent in certain activities of daily living skills like eating, drinking, toileting, and brushing. He is also aware about different festivals celebrated in Goa and also is actively involved in many outings and programs organized by the project.

With the training from the educators on using Good Vibes app, the mobile application used for communication with others, he has fair knowledge about the app and has learnt basic skills of using the mobile phones. He uses hearing aid in both his ears and expresses himself through speech which is distorted.

He loves to draw and watch cartoons. His educator has seen him turn from a calm and shy boy into an energetic and keen child. He is now excited to develop his computer skills. His parents have seen a tremendous change in his behaviour and learning. They want him to become an independent person and are with him every step of the way.
