Project Update — Inclusive Resource Center

1. What Your Support Made Possible

Over the past three months, thanks to your support, $400 in donor funds went toward specialized developmental play sets and sensory tools — tactile hand and foot trainers, rainbow bells, ABA voice-recording buttons, sorting sets, counting kits, and nuts-and-bolts fine motor sets — all now fully integrated into our daily therapy routines. Local business partners also donated around $500 in stationery and office supplies, covering our administrative and creative therapy needs at no extra cost.

In our frontline community, where children face the chronic stress of war alongside complex developmental challenges, these tools have become essential instruments of rehabilitation, communication, and emotional stabilization.

2. Impact Over the Last 90 Days

Our specialists conducted close to 200 individual sessions with children presenting a wide range of diagnoses, including autism spectrum disorders and ADHD, severe speech disorders and bulbar dysarthria, mild to moderate intellectual disabilities, and complex neurological and genetic conditions such as Costello syndrome and severe motor impairments (including hemiplegia and GMFCS Level 5).

Our multidisciplinary team of speech therapists, ABA specialists, occupational therapists, and psychologists observed measurable progress across five areas:

Sensory & body awareness — tactile trainers helped children build body awareness and reduce sensory overload
Speech & communication — recording buttons and rainbow bells gave non-verbal children a bridge to communication through AAC and encouraged vocalization
Cognitive & logical thinking — sorting and counting sets strengthened visual categorization and offered predictability for hyperactive or stressed children
Fine motor skills — nuts-and-bolts and maze sets built hand strength, coordination, and motor planning
Early numeracy — the caterpillar counting game made abstract math concepts concrete and hands-on

3. Looking Ahead: Expansion Update

We're excited to share that our expansion plans are already underway — renovation work on our new, specialized therapy rooms has begun and is currently in progress. Once complete, this new space will allow our center to increase its capacity from 21 to up to 35 children served regularly.

4. What's Next

To fully equip these new spaces, we're now raising funds for physical rehabilitation and sensory-motor equipment — including vestibular and balance tools (such as crash pads and a balance board), muscle-tone equipment (massage mats and fitness bands), and interactive multimedia systems to engage children with low motivation or severe cognitive delays.

Update on initial materials purchase

Overview

After being completely destroyed by a missile strike in 2022, the Inclusive Resource Center “Without Borders” in Derhachi, Kharkiv region, was rebuilt by our Foundation to provide offline support for children with special educational needs. Today, as we expand the Center, we are responding to the growing needs of around 200 children who require regular, high-quality, and safe developmental support.

Initial materials purchase

With donor support, we purchased 14 specialized developmental sets ($340) to support sensory processing, speech, cognitive, motor, and numeracy skills.

Types of Materials and Their Purpose

Sensory development tools (tactile hand and foot trainers) → stimulate tactile sensory systems and improve body awareness
Speech and communication tools (rainbow bells, category games, recording buttons for ABA therapy) → support speech, vocabulary, and communication skills
Cognitive and classification games (sorting sets, counting kits) → develop logical thinking, categorization, generalization, and early math skills
Fine motor and coordination tools (bolts & nuts sets, sensory bags, labyrinths) → improve hand-eye coordination and motor planning
Early math tools (caterpillar counting game) → support counting, sequencing, and numeracy skills

Impact so far

Even at this early stage, the sets are already making a difference: children are more engaged, sessions are interactive, and specialists can provide individualized support. Up to 100 sessions per month benefit dozens of children regularly. These tools are especially important in a frontline community, providing a safe, development-oriented environment for children under stress.

What’s next

The next step is to fully equip the expanded space with professional sensory and developmental equipment (simulators) in newly arranged rooms for rehabilitation specialists. This will allow children to further develop their sensory systems, motor skills, and cognitive abilities, ensuring sustainable, high-quality offline support, social integration, confidence, and independence.
