We are raising funds for a video colposcope and a diathermocoagulator for the inclusive clinic Light Medical Centr in Poltava. This equipment will enable early diagnosis and treatment of cervical conditions for women from vulnerable groups, including those living with HIV. The project aims to ensure access to quality and safe medical care without stigma or discrimination.
Ukraine is facing one of the most severe HIV epidemics in Eastern Europe. In Poltava region, new HIV cases rose by over 21% in the first nine months of 2024. Women from vulnerable groups - including those living with HIV, who use drugs, are homeless, or part of the LGBTQ+ community - often avoid care due to stigma in public clinics. U.S. funding cuts have further limited access to free diagnostics. Our clinic offers a safe space, but lacks basic equipment for quality gynecological care.
The project will fund the purchase of a video colposcope and an electrosurgical coagulator for an inclusive clinic in Poltava. This will ensure that women from vulnerable groups have access to high-quality, non-discriminatory gynecological care. The equipment will enable early detection and treatment of cervical conditions, helping prevent complications and save lives. The clinic will serve as a safe space for those who have previously avoided the healthcare system.
Equipping the gynecology room will allow the clinic to provide quality care to hundreds of women from vulnerable groups each year. Early diagnosis will help reduce cancer rates and mortality, while ensuring stable and safe access to treatment. The clinic will become a model of inclusive, stigma-free healthcare, lowering barriers to care. In the long term, this will strengthen public health and support the development of inclusive medicine in Ukraine.
