Introduction
For many children in rural Uganda, the school day begins with more than just lessons; it starts with navigating basic challenges like finding clean water or a safe place to wash their hands. These seemingly small needs have a big impact on their health, confidence, and ability to learn.
At Partners for Community Transformation (PaCT), we believe that every child deserves a safe and dignified learning environment. That includes access to clean water and proper hygiene facilities. Our work in communities like Nabukenya, Nchwanga, and Bujjojo reflects this belief, as we prioritize sustainable, school-based interventions that improve daily life for learners, especially girls.
In this quarter, despite not receiving new funding, we maximized available resources to deliver critical WASH infrastructure that is now transforming school communities.
Key Achievements – Q2 2025
We successfully completed a group handwashing station benefiting over 260 pupils at Nabukenya Primary School. The station promotes regular handwashing with soap, reduces hygiene-related illnesses, and enhances students’ well-being and attendance.
The facility includes multiple taps to support group handwashing and is built to national school WASH standards. To reinforce this progress, we also conducted sanitation awareness sessions focused on hand hygiene, personal care, and disease prevention.
With generous support from Water to Thrive, PaCT completed the construction of two hand pump wells at schools in Kakumiro District, providing safe and reliable drinking water to hundreds of beneficiaries:
These water points are a major milestone in our ongoing efforts to eliminate unsafe water as a barrier to education.
Acknowledgment
We extend heartfelt appreciation to our friends and partners whose previous contributions have enabled these life-changing developments. In particular, we thank Water to Thrive for funding the hand pump wells and our UK-based partners who supported the handwashing facility at Nabukenya Primary School.
Funding Status and Appeal
While we celebrate these achievements, it's important to note that no additional funding was received during Q2 2025. Our progress was made possible through earlier donor support and careful resource management.
We now seek additional support to continue this work in other high-need schools. Many learners still lack access to safe water, decent sanitation, and basic hygiene services, essentials for education and dignity.
