I no longer have to look after goats

By Shankar (12) | Beneficiary

Now I can attend school
Now I can attend school

My name is Shankar, and I am 12 years old. I want to share my story because your support has changed my life in ways I could never have imagined. Four years ago, tragedy struck when I lost my mother. She was bitten by a snake while collecting grass for our livestock in the jungle.

After her death, my father remarried, and I lived with my stepmother and six other family members. We were very poor, and my stepmother never showed much care or support for me. She often sent me to the jungle to look after our goats instead of letting me go to school. I missed so much class and was at risk of dropping out altogether.

Everything changed when my school principal, Bishnu Maya Singtan, noticed my struggles. She saw how much I wanted to learn and how hard I tried to keep up despite all the challenges at home. Concerned, she reached out to Child Rescue Nepal for help. That was when my life began to turn around.

Since last year, having an educational bursary has allowed me to continue my education without worrying about missing school or not being able to afford what I need. I no longer have to look after the goats and can now focus fully on my studies. As a result,

I am now a regular student in class and have even secured a good position in my studies.

Thanks to your help, I am safe and happy now. My stepmother has also started treating me better because she no longer has to bear the financial burden of my education. I wake up every day excited to go to school and learn new things. Your kindness has given me hope and a future I never thought I would have. I dream of becoming someone who can help others, just like you have helped me. Thank you for changing my life.
