Improving lives with value added wood, Costa Rica

To change the world, on starts right  where one is. At ASIREA, we hope to add value to wood produced by our members, to make wood planting a more profitable venture. If planting wood generates benefits to local families...more people will include trees on their farms...and more trees means more soil protection, more carbon taken out of the atmosphere, more homes for birds and other animals. For communities it means more jobs, and more income which can mean better education, health and opportunities for the children. And more trees. Our vision is a world where trees are part of everyones´ life in a green economy that supports sustainable options. 

Our strategy is working with what we call VALUE CHAINS where we are all partners in this venture: the farmer, the lumberer, ASIREA, and the buyer. 

So we are working hard to create a market where all the wood products have a niche! That is why this particular project is so important. UNTIL we have the solar wood dryer we cannot actually dry wood to sell at a better price to furniture makers.  This is where we have been asking for your support. Wood furniture substitues plastic and is a great way to lock carbon out of the atmosphere - because wood is carbon. 

Meanwhile, we are developing other products such as mulch: which protects the soil and is a great way to use the left over wood from milling processes. We are also working to develp products from smaller diameters of the wood from local plantations.
