In Wakiso District, numerous primary schools face critical sanitation challenges, with insufficient toilets and handwashing stations. This lack of facilities leads to poor hygiene practices, resulting in high rates of waterborne illnesses, student absenteeism, and lower academic performance. This project aims to improve sanitation infrastructure in five schools, fostering better hygiene, health, and school attendance, with a special focus on gender-sensitive facilities that support all students.
In rural Uganda, only 37% of primary schools have clean water, and 60% lack basic sanitation. Overcrowded latrines, often shared by boys and girls, compromise privacy and health, with pupil-to-latrine ratios as high as 250:1. Without proper facilities, girls miss school during menstruation, and students with disabilities face even greater challenges. This project will build five girl-friendly, accessible latrines with handwashing stations, MHM rooms, supporting the health, dignity, and education
This project will improve school sanitation in rural Uganda by constructing five girl-friendly, accessible latrines equipped with handwashing stations and private MHM rooms. The facilities will reduce overcrowding, enhance privacy and safety for girls, promote inclusive access for students with disabilities, and encourage regular handwashing, leading to better hygiene, addressing the critical needs, of regular school attendance, health, and learning outcomes for 1000 students.
The project will create a healthier, inclusive environment for 1,000 students in rural Uganda. Improved sanitation will reduce absenteeism, especially for girls managing menstrual hygiene, promoting higher retention and completion rates. Enhanced hygiene will lower illness, boosting regular attendance and learning outcomes. Accessible facilities will support students with disabilities, fostering inclusivity. This project provides lasting benefits in health, education, and gender equality.
