Dear sponsors/donors and well wishers of SevaChildren Norway!
Ashagram Orphanage building stands on a large Campus of 20 acres of farm land with a beautiful panoramic view of an adjacent lake, lot of agricultural farms nearby and some hillocks and forest lands dotting the horizon. Apart from the Ashagram Orphanage building, we also have here other buildings such as Community Hall where all the functions, meetings, workshops and training programs are being conducted. Adjacent to that is the water purification plant and purified drinking water dispensing Kiosk.
The reporting period, viz. March to June, 2021 was marked by the deadly second wave of Coronavirus. As reported in New York Times and confirmed by several studies, the total deaths in India due to Covid-19 is as huge as nearly 500.000 people. The prolonged lockdown restrictions have caused unimaginable sufferings and miseries to the people. We too faced lots of limitations in carrying on work in Ashagram Infrastructure development during this period. Following is what we could achieve:
(1) The total boundary area of our land is around 1700 metres.
(2) The total inner wall length is 600 metres with a land area of 2 acres. So far we have constructed 450 metres of the inner wall length. And in this, work on the wall separating the two portions, viz. 80 metres has been completed 8 ft height (2 feet below foundation and 6 feet above the foundation). These 6 feet above the foundation was the most difficult of the whole project as it was full of rocks that had to be blasted, removed and filled with mud. And we have done that. The height of this portion of the wall, shall be increased by another 18 inches. And on the top of it, we shall be having net fencing.
(3) Work on the remaining portion of the inner wall that is, 150 metres is yet to be taken up. And it shall be taken up soon.
(4) We have planted nearly 2000 fruit trees in our Ashagram Campus. And these trees are being taken very good care and growing up very well. Already we are getting some fruit too.
(5) Ashagram Orphanage children continue to be accommodated and taken care of in our Ashanilaya Orphanage in Bangalore.
(6) We have secured life-long free electricity from the Government for our borewell for the purpose of drinking water as well as for irrigation purpose.
(7) There was no proper road to our Orphanage building within the Orphanage campus. Proper roads have been made within the Campus.
(8) Various programs are being conducted at Ashagram for the poor children from nearby villages. Due to school closures for more than one year, we are conducting learning camps to keep children connected to education. After the tuitions, we provide them free mid-day meals, as they miss the meals they used to get in their schools.
Conclusion: We express our deep gratitude to donors/donors and well wishers for the support extended to us for development of Ashagram Infrastructure to enable us to provide good and proper care to Orphan children.

Dear sponsors/donors and well wishers of SevaChildren Norway!
It is exactly one year this month since the Prime Minister of India, on the night of 24th of March of 2020, giving just 4 hours’ notice, ordered complete Lockdown of the country which can be described as the most brutal the world has seen. It caused unimaginable sufferings and miseries to the people, including many deaths due to hunger and starvation. For major portion of the year, people were not allowed to go out except for the most essential services. In such an environment, it was not possible for us to carry on much work. However, we still could achieve something.
And, as the world continues to combat the Coronavirus Pandemic, though the rigorous lockdowns imposed initially have been lifted, there are still lots of restrictions people have to abide with in order to prevent the infections. At Ashagram Orphanage too, the works we have taken up viz. construction of inner safety wall, provision of safe drinking water, and provision of bigger kitchen space, couldn’t go at much rapid way that we would have liked to move. But, something we have achieved, e.g.:
There is still lot of work to be done to ensure that the Orphanage children have a safe, healthy and enjoyable environment, e.g.:
SevaChildren Norway is extremely thankful to all sponsors/donors and well wishers to have received more than US $ 15.300 – equivalent to NOK 130.000 - through various channels for this project, from the very beginning and up to date. We are still eager to receive further donations in order to complete this whole project.

The world continues to combat the Coronavirus Pandemic. Though the rigorous lockdowns imposed initially in India have been lifted, there are still lots of restrictions people have to abide with in order to prevent the infections. At Ashagram Orphanage too, the works we have taken up with support from GlobalGiving, viz. construction of inner safety wall, provision of safe drinking water, and provision of bigger kitchen space, couldn’t go at much rapid way that we would have liked to move.
Ashagram Orphanage - located at Pathakotte Village near Hosur in Tamilnadu, India - has since the start of this project been prepared for its re-opening with new facilities and new protective safety safeguards. During the reporting period children who used to live here have all been shifted temporarily to our other Orphanage viz. Ashanilaya located at Bangalore. Most of the orphan children having single parent or close relatives, have been sent to stay with them.
The Health Care Infrastructure System in India is so bad, and so overburdened that, it would be extremely difficult for us, running on very low resources, to provide adequate health care protection to all the children should any one of them get infected. Hence, only those children who have absolutely no close relative, are being taken care of at Ashanilaya. And they will be shifted to Ashagram Orphanage as soon as the infrastructure facilities that are being created, are ready.
We shall in this progress report take you on a small journey as to what has been completed and what is still remaining based on our original plans for this project!
(a) We have constructed major portion of the boundary wall safeguarding our Orphanage property. Two thirds of the inner wall construction is completed.
In order to prepare the Orphanage for the coming challenges when children will live there, we have also:
There is still lot of work to be done to ensure that the Orphanage children have a safe, healthy and enjoyable environment.
We have utilized for the above works the funds collected earlier in the best possible way for you as a donor. We thank you all for your belief in SevaChildren Norway and the work we are doing for children in India.

Ashagram Orphanage, located at Pathakotte Village near Hosur in Tamilnadu, India is presently being prepared for its re-opening with new facilities and new protective safety safeguards. The children have temporarily been shifted to our other Orphanage viz. Ashanilaya located at Bangalore. Most of the orphan children having single parent or close relatives, have been sent to stay with them. This is necessitated due to several problems created by Covid 19 Pandemic, mainly the difficulties we face in ensuring Social Distancing by the children. The Health Care Infrastructure System in India is so bad, and so overburdened that, it would be extremely difficult for us, running on very low resources, to provide adequate health care protection to all the children should any one of them get infected. During the last 6 months we have taken up the following activities at Ashagram:
(1) Construction of the Inner Safety Wall. As this wall is meant to provide safety protection, importantly against the visit of Wild Elephants, we want to make a very strong wall. For this, we are using granite quarry stones, sand and cement. At present we have constructed the foundation, and three feet above the ground level. It is only on the front side of the main Ashagram building. We are yet to start work on the other two sides. On the Southern and Western side. On one side, viz. Northern side, we don’t need to construct any wall as there is a natural sloping barrier. There is still additional work of raising it to a total of 5 feet height.
(2) Levelling of the grounds. In order to be able to have place for two playgrounds (basketball and volleyball), we have levelled the area by removing all the rocks. We have completed 90% of this rocks and earth removing work to level the ground.
(3) Trees plantation. This area is very sunny and there are no trees, except those we have planted. During the last 6 months, we have additionally planted in the Ashagram Campus more 200 fruit giving trees. And there is still lot of empty space which we want to fill up with lots of more trees.
We have utilized for the above works the funds collected in the best possible way for you as a donor. We thank you all for your belief in SevaChildren Norway and the work we are doing for children in India.

Dear sponsors, individual donors and companies – friends and supporters of the SevaChildren family.
New donations of US $ 1.002,21 (given through GlobalGiving and paid in directly to our bank account) was received since the start of this campaign in the beginning of 2020! We are extremely happy for this!
Ashagram Orphanage building stands on a large Campus of 20 acres of farm land with a beautiful panoramic view of an adjacent lake, lot of agricultural farms nearby and some hillocks and forest lands dotting the horizon. The vast expanse of empty spaces within the campus is being made use of by our orphanage children for their outdoor games and sports. Recently a few more buildings have come up within the campus aimed at providing facilities to orphan children as well as to our Community
Development project beneficiaries and to rural poor children sponsored by
SevaChildren Norway.
The main building, which for several years remained half constructed, has now the main structure with the first floor completed, including windows, doors, electrical, plastering, painting and flooring tiles fixings.
We express our deep gratitude to everybody having participated in this fundraising for the Ashagram Orphanage so far. We are now trying our level best to complete the remaining part of this project once the covid-19 virus is eradicated, and do appreciate receiving any amount, small or big, from our esteemed donors in order to finalize the remaining part.
All the best to all of you from all of us!
