This project will provide critical medical equipment and furnishings to Jamaican senior homes in order to increase quality of care and promote healthy aging among residents.
As Jamaica’s elderly population has ballooned, public poor houses have increasingly served as primitive nursing homes. “These facilities, originally designed to promote infection control and immunization, lack the necessary equipment and supplies to appropriately care for their aging residents,” said Andrea Arkin, Program Officer. Global Links will provide carefully selected medical equipment and furnishings to prioritized senior care homes in order to improve care for residents.
By working strategically to collect, refurbish, and ship targeted medical supplies and furnishings to Jamaican senior homes, Global Links will drastically improve care for some of Jamaica’s most vulnerable elderly.
By updating Jamaican senior care facilities, this project will serve as a model for Global Links and other relief organizations in supporting Jamaica and other countries faced with an increasing public health burden due to aging.
