Thanks to you, we are just starting the dairy project. We just acquired the demo plot for the dairy project. This is a 1.20 hectare parcel of land on which the demonstrations on dairy and other farming activities will be held. This will be a smart farm that will utilize sustainable technologies.
We are now working to construct the cow sheds where the cows will be staying, as well as feeding troughs and all other necessary facilities to make the cows comfortable. We still need help and volunteers for this as a greater part of the budget is consumed by purchase of the land and in the construction.
With you continued support we will be able to finish setting up the smart farm and start the training program and hopefully improve milk production from the current 2 liters to 8 liters per cow per day, thereby increasing growth incomes ;the dream of many smallholder dairy farmers in the region.
This project will greatly aid in the gender mainstreaming as more women and youth are involved from the beginning. This will be the first time that the youth and women of this area will initiate and claim ownership of a project! We are already involving them in logistics, construction and setting up of the farm.
