Improve Menstrual Hygiene to 2000 Girls in Uganda

Dear GlobalGiving team and supporters,

We are grateful for the opportunity to update you on our ongoing project aimed at providing reusable menstrual pads to 2,000 schoolgirls in the rural Kamuli district of eastern Uganda. This initiative is vital to promote menstrual hygiene, restore dignity and help girls attend school without interruption due to their menstrual cycle.

Since the launch of the project, our team at Aim Born Champions Children Africa (ABCCA) has been actively involved in community mobilization, awareness raising and implementation planning. We have worked closely with schools and local leaders to identify the most vulnerable girls and prepare them for the training and support they will receive.

However, we admit that our fundraising efforts have been challenging. Of the $25,000 goal, we have only raised $75.22 so far. Although this is far short of our goal, we remain committed and optimistic. 

We are aware of the urgent need and are working hard to reach at least half of the goal so that we can start implementing the first phase of the project. This includes the distribution of sanitary pad kits, education on menstrual hygiene and training in the production of reusable pads from locally available materials.

We sincerely thank our donors for the generous support we have received so far. Every contribution brings us closer to transforming the lives of these girls and ensuring that they do not have to miss out on their education because of their menstruation.

Project Overview.

Our project entitled "Improve Menstrual Hygiene to 2000 Girls in Uganda" with Project ID 65391 is a transformative initiative that aims to provide 2000 schoolgirls in rural Kamuli District with reusable menstrual pads, educate them comprehensively about menstrual hygiene and enable them to make their own pads from locally sourced materials. This enables the girls to overcome the obstacles that menstruation poses to their education and personal development.

Current Status.

We are very excited to begin implementing this project, but have not yet secured the necessary funds to do so. Despite this challenge, we are determined to start the project as soon as the funds are available and as we know how urgently these young girls need help.

The Need and a Story to Remember.

For many girls, menstruation brings shame, missed school days and disrupted education due to the lack of access to menstrual hygiene products. One of the girls we aim to support shared her struggles with using rags during her periods, which often leaked and kept her from attending school. "I fear going to class during my period," she explained, her voice full of worry about her future. Stories like hers are what drive us to act now.

Why this Project is Important.

Menstrual hygiene management is an important but often overlooked aspect of girls’ education in rural Uganda. Many girls miss school during their menstrual cycle because they do not have access to sanitary products, leading to learning gaps, low self-esteem and in some cases dropping out of school. By providing reusable sanitary pads and equipping girls with the knowledge and skills to maintain their hygiene, this project:

• Improve school attendance and academic performance.
• Promote self-confidence and dignity among beneficiaries.
• Create long-term solutions through sustainable, reusable materials.
• Our Willingness to Implement.
Despite funding challenges, we have laid the groundwork for the project. Partnerships with local schools, community leaders and health professionals have been established and the training plans are ready for implementation. We are determined to ensure the success of the project and deliver tangible results as soon as funding is secured.

We are very grateful for the continued support and interest of our community and donors. Their belief in our mission motivates us to keep going. We remain committed to transparency, impact and the empowerment of these 2000 targeted girls especially in the rural kamuli district of Uganda.
