With the rains will come Cholera
ASAP has been very successful in the fight against Cholera in Zimbabwe. By using Cluster Facilitators who attend the regular Village Savings Club meetings, information about how to prevent Cholera is provided to the women. The women are also taught how to treat cholera immediately to prevent death.
As the 2010 rainy season begins, ASAP staff are preparing the Cluster Facilitators to continue this approach and keep the Cholera problem at an absolute minimum. Your donation will help ASAP save lives by supporting it’s training of Cluster Facilitators in their work to prevent another Cholera outbreak!

Help Stop the Spread of Measles Too!
By Elizabeth Bara | Executive Director
Stop the Spread of Measles
Today Measles are a major threat in Zimbabwe. This year, over 100 children have died from the outbreak. Yesterday The Zimbabwe Daily News reported a father watched the lives of his 4 children stripped away as they were wounded with the disease. Your support for this project will help ASAP Africa share knowledge about curbing the spread of measles and the need for vaccination. It is currently the dry season in Zimbabwe and the threat of Cholera decreases until the rains return in October. Your support for this project WILL help ASAP save the lives today, sharing health maintenance knowledge and skills with families in rural Africa. Please share the honor and privileged of serving others less fortunate in this time of need by contributing to this project.

Good and Bad News

A sugar and salt solution can save lives if available
The bad news first. As those of you who follow ASAP on Facebook are aware, there is a drought this year in Zimbabwe. Crops planted in October have now withered as the first rains only recently began to fall.
The good news - the predicted Cholera outbreak has not yet materialized. The funds raised so far will be used to purchase re-hydration kits for the local leadership in each village, so they will be prepared in the event of an out break.
This is one of the activities included in the Out of School Adolescents project partnership between ASAP and Catholic Relief Services. Due to budget cuts, worthwhile and much need activities like this one had to be eliminated. Please read about the OSA project below.
