Empower 10,000 Victims of Violence in Cameroon.

SUMMARY.

TRAINING ON AGROFORESTRY, ORGANIC FERTILIZER PRODUCTION, SEED PRESERVATION AND DISTRIBUTION OF FARM TOOLS TO 35 FARMERS.

Integrated Agricultural Association (I.A.A) trained 30 women and 5 men on agroforestry techniques, nursery management, organic fertilizer (compost) production and seed handling from the 2nd to 3rd of March 2023 in Kumbo, Northwest Region of Cameroon. 35 tropical hoes were given to 35 participants during the training workshop as motivational support to promote sustainable agriculture and boost food production in the area. Participants were drawn from Mbuluf, Shisong, Mbohtong and Melim respectively. I.A.A organized this workshop in partnership with Green Care and Shison Men of Vision Farming Common Innitiative Group, with funding from GlobalGiving and Urban Movement Innovation Fund. The aim of the workshop was to empower smallholder rural farmers with skills and resources to shift from the use of chemical fertilizer and pesticides to organic fertilizer and natural methods of pests and disease control.

IMPACT.

Given the expensive and destructive nature of chemical fertilizer now, I.A.A is exploring ways to work with farmers in a more effective way to replace the use of chemical fertilization with organic fertilizer to ensure sustainability in food production. This can be achieved by training and supporting farmers to recycle kitchen  and farm waste to produce fertilizer by themselves for use in their res[pective fields. 35 have been trained I.A.A has received 41 request for training from farmers in other locations within 48 hours of publishing the event on social media pages, an indication that there is increased need for the program and will subsequently lead to decrease use of organic fertilizer and natural methods of pests and disease control in Agriculture.

CHALLENGE.

The need for this program (training on organic fertilizer) is growing in the community as many more farmers continue to request for training. This also need additional budget to generate more impact and due to the budget constraints, I.A.A is unable to increase the capacity of the training program. I.A.A welcome finanicial donation of any amount to create maximum results in the food sector.

WAYFORWARD.

I.A.A will remain consistent in mobilizing funding from different sources both local and international, to continue this work in Cameroon and beyond. Communicate results and challenges regularly to the global community to attract new supporters and donors to grow this work.
