Celebrating another new school building

By Christopher Heun | founder

The finished classrooms
The finished classrooms

Our latest partner school to unveil a new classroom building is Guru Lower Secondary School, which has 175 students in kindergarten through eighth grade.

The earthquake damaged three of the school’s eight classrooms. The new building that we constructed restores those three rooms. We officially inaugurated the new classrooms in January 2017.

We have a history of supporting Guru Lower Secondary School. In 2014, we repaired two classrooms that had fallen into disrepair. Throughout our earthquake reconstruction work, we made it a priority to work with communities where we already had strong ties, either from previous renovation work or our teacher training program.

We were glad to be able to help Guru Lower Secondary School and its students, teachers and staff as well as the parents and local community. Even though the reconstruction work took longer to complete than we initially expected, it was one of the first schools we agreed to help after the earthquake.

The school was originally built in 1982. It’s located about 30 miles from Kathmandu in the Bukhel village development committee of Lalitpur District.
